Red Army statement regarding extreme heat

In light of a decision to not postpone Adelaide United’s most recent home match, regardless of disgracefully dangerous weather conditions, the Red Army would like to announce a boycott of any future afternoon home games that are played in similar conditions.

On Sunday 8th December, Adelaide United played its Round 9 fixture against Newcastle Jets at Hindmarsh Stadium. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, temperatures in Adelaide hit a maximum of 38.9 degrees Celsius.

With 38-degree heat recorded at 5:30pm kick-off, a request was earlier made by Adelaide United to postpone the game until 7pm that evening, however said request was rejected by Football Federation Australia.

The conditions in which the game was played were detrimental to the health of players, staff, and fans alike.

An attendance of 6074 people was the club’s lowest home crowd since the 2016/17 season; it is clear the decision to go ahead with the match turned thousands of supporters away…
As a result, the Red Army has decided to boycott active support of any future home afternoon matches that are played in a similar weather conditions.

The Red Army hopes the various active support groups around the country will follow suit in boycotting home games played in similar circumstances. Action must be taken to preserve the health of those involved on and off the park.
